Eric Pohl
Assistant Coach
After serving as a volunteer assistant coach and team camp director at Oregon State since March of 2009, Eric Pohl enters his first season as an assistant coach with the women's soccer program. He also is presently the director of coaching for the Corvallis United Soccer Club.
"I'm very excited for Eric to join our program on a full time basis," Rhode said. "He's a great fit for our program. He has a very good eye for talent and has a terrific understanding of the game."
The graduate of Corvallis' Crescent Valley High School was inducted into the Raiders' Hall of Fame after a career that included scoring 86 goals. He left Corvallis to attend the University of San Diego where he helped the Toreros to the NCAA Tournament in 2003. He graduated from San Diego in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
"It is a great feeling to have earned the trust and respect of the coaching staff as the volunteer assistant this past year," Pohl said. "I'm thrilled to coach in my hometown at the highest level, and work daily with an athletic department full of top quality coaches and administrators. We had great success this last season, and I look forward to improving on it in the years to come."
Pohl also participated in the Olympic Development Program, where he was a four-year state captain and was a National Pool player one year.
Michelle Voiland
Assistant Coach
Michelle Voiland, who works primarily with the Oregon State goalkeepers, enters her third season as an assistant coach with the women's soccer program.
In 2009, Voiland's second season, she coached a defensive group that posted seven shutouts and a school record 0.90 goals against average. The defensive effort allowed Oregon State to advance to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship for the second time in school history. The Beavers finished the year ranked No. 21 in the nation after advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history with a record of 14-8-1.
In her first season at Oregon State, the Beavers posted an impressive 1.26 goals against average as freshman goalkeeper Colleen Boyd ranked among the Pac-10 Conference leaders in several defensive categories.
Prior to Oregon State, Voiland spent three seasons as an assistant coach with FC Saarbrücken, serving as the team's goalkeeper coach after playing for eight seasons with the German soccer club.
Prior to her stint at FC Saarbrücken, Voiland spent two seasons as a coach for the Nevada Olympic Development Program. She served as the head goalkeeper coach for the Nevada South ODP where she was responsible for evaluation, selection and training of the boys and girls goalkeepers for all age groups.
Voiland also served as the assistant coach at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas (1996-1998) where she worked with the boys and girls varsity teams and served as the junior varsity boys and girls head coach. In addition, she founded the Las Vegas Goalkeeper Academy in 1996 and was an assistant coach for three seasons with the Portland Metro Soccer Club (1993-95).
The native of Bellevue, Wash., was a standout soccer player at the University of Portland, where she was the starting goalkeeper and was a four-time, first-team all-conference selection. During her senior season, Voiland led the Pilots to the NCAA Women's College Cup Final Four.
Following her playing days with the Pilots, Voiland played for three seasons in the Nevada ODP before starting her eight-year professional playing career with FC Saarbrücken.
Voiland earned her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in sociology from Portland in the spring of 1995 and holds a USSF National "B" coaching license.
